2 nights at Nkwali, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

5 nights Walking Mobile Safari, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

3 nights at Tena Tena or Nsefu, South Luandwa National Park, Zambia

Extension of 3 nights at the Islands of Siankaba, between Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls, Zambia

Day 1 & 2:

Your safari starts in Lusaka where you will be picked and transferred via light aircraft to the South Luangwa National Park for a 2 nights stay at Nkali. The Camp is located on Robin's private land, overlooking the National Park. The area surrounding Nkwali is superb game viewing country, with a beautiful area of ebony woodland and open grasslands. We have put driving loops in this area and often see as much behind camp as in the park - including leopard, lion and occasionally wild dog.   This area is particularly good for elephants and Thornicroft giraffe (an endemic species) Elephants also regularly cross the Luangwa, seen from the bar, or come to the waterhole near the thatched dining room.

Days 3 to 7:

In the morning after your second night at Nkwali you will start your walking safari. For the next 5 days the safari follows the Mupamadzi River - a clear water, major tributary of the Luangwa.  The day starts before dawn, getting up for a quick breakfast around the camp fire.  Setting off for the morning walk around six, the morning walk will be from 4 to 6 hours depending on sightings and enthusiasm.  Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the team have broken camp, packed the truck and headed off to the next camp site.  If a little late on departure  the chef may end up chopping onions on top of the "kitundu" (safari kit)!  They arrive, set up camp, cook lunch and as you walk in hot and no doubt tired from your walk - you will be greeted by the camp manageress with cold drinks and lunch will be ready.

The tent is "walk in" that open both ends for good ventilation with camp beds, mattress, sheets and blankets.  The shower is under a tree and the loo is a short drop with a wooden throne.  The dinning table is under the shadiest tree and the bar is a small table with the glasses and drinks, next to a small gas fridge to keep the beers and wine chilled.  The food is first class and the same standard as the safari camps.  After lunch there is a chance for a rest, read or snooze before afternoon tea.  The afternoon walk is gentle, short and often the sundowners will be brought to a meeting spot in the bush by vehicle and so there is a short spotlight drive back to camp.  Then in the evening - showers, drinks around the fire before the welcome dinner - usually serenaded by the local lion pride or hyena.

The walking is varied in difficulty as the terrain changes and the morning walks are from 6 to 10 kilometers.  The timing, distance and toughness of the walks is determined by the group but you do need to be "walking fit" and we say you should be able to run at least 50 meters (not from an animal of course but to show a level of fitness).

The area is remote and wild, the terrain and habitats varied and the game shy and unused to man. From ants to buffalo, a bird's nest to tracking a lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush.

Days 8 to 10:

After 5 days walking, your safari will continue at Tena Tena for a 3 nights stay. Tena Tena Camp is altogether beyond superlatives, and must be one of the best safari camps in the whole of Africa" The Times, London. This remote and small camp lies within the National Park and enjoys a stunning location on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. It was Robin's first camp and has remained a favorite of many safari lovers over the years.

Day 11 and or Days 11 to 14:

You will then either be transferred to Lusaka where your safari trip will end or add the Victoria Falls extension for a other 3 nights stay and be transferred to either or Kasane via light aircraft before to be transferred to the island. The Islands of Siankaba Lodge is the most classic of forested retreats. Siankaba's seven secluded chalets, each with its unique and individually different view of the mighty Zambezi River, are linked by a foot bridge to a haute cuisine restaurant. All of this is located on two untouched islands in the middle of the mighty Zambezi River situated between the 'Seventh Wonder of the Natural World', the magnificent Victoria Falls, and the world famous Chobe National Park.

Day 15:

Depending on your international flight, you will flight either from Kasane or Livingstone to Lusaka or Johannesburg where your safari will end.
