Days 1 to 5:

Your safari starts at your arrival at the international terminal of Dar es Salaam airport. Unless your international flight arrives very early in Dar, you will spend one night to a very nice hotel in Dar es Salaam (and be transferred). The following morning, you will be transferred to the domestic terminal and will fly to Selous Game Reserve, the biggest game reserve in Africa. You will spend 4 nights at the splendid Selous Safari Camp.  Only 200 km West of Dar es Salaam lies the mighty Selous Game Reserve, one of Africa’s least known yet wildest conservation areas. At an unbelievable 55,000 sq km Selous is almost twice the size of Belgium and four times larger than the famous Serengeti in the North, covering 5% of Tanzania’s land area. The Selous’ ecosystem as a whole is made up of a few conservation areas, namely Mikumi in the North and the Kilombero game controlled area in the West, covering in total over 90,000 sq km of pristine wilderness devoid of human influence. Selous has over 2,100 species of plants, 350 species of birds, 60,000 elephant, 108,000 buffalos and an estimated 1,300 of the worlds’ approximately 4,000 remaining rare wild dogs giving guests an opportunity to glimpse all of these exotic animals in true unspoilt wilderness.

The Selous Safari Camp is delightfully situated within an open palm forest on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, a massive lake adjoining the Great Rufiji River. Blending in superbly with its natural surroundings in what is one of the most photogenic areas of the Selous Game Reserve. All safari tents are widely spaced along the lake shore ensuring maximum privacy and wonderful views. Each tent sits atop its own raised timber platform with two large verandahs on either side where one can sit with a cup of tea in the morning watching the bush come to life at sunrise, or nursing a gin and tonic as the bush gets ready for the night at sunset.

Days 6 to 9:

After a last morning game drive, you will take a charter flight to your next destination, the fantastic Ruaha National Park where you will spend 4 nights at Jongomero. For anyone seeking a true African wilderness experience, a visit to Ruaha National Park is essential. One of Tanzanias' wildest parks, Ruaha can only be described as a true unspoiled natural wilderness. Due to its' distance from any major city very few tourists visit the park each year but those who do are treated to unsurpassable wilderness and complete isolation. The landscape is rugged and harsh and no other park in Tanzania epitomises the definition of "wild Africa" quite like the Ruaha. Vast and untouched the Ruaha National park, after the annexation of two other major conservation areas is now the largest National Park in Tanzania and stands currently at an incredible 23,000 square kilometers; substantially larger than Wales! The park is perhaps the least well-known and yet to connoisseurs it is without doubt one of the most spectacular in Africa.

Superbly isolated right in the heart of the Ruaha National Park lies Jongomero camp on the banks of a seasonal sand river which bears the same name. Blending in beautifully with its surroundings the camp is tucked away among some shady riverine vegetation not far from permanent water therefore attracting a large amount of animals into the camp area. Being the only camp situated in this area of the park ensures unmatched privacy and a true wilderness experience. Accommodation at Jongomero comprises eight large and well-appointed tented suites, all built on raised wooden platforms and under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda. All tents are spread out, situated on the edge of the sand river which is often used by a multitude of different animals to make their way to the river system for water. The dining and living areas are both original and very comfortable offering a great vantage to take in the sights and sounds of the African bush that surrounds the camp, as does the natural "hippo friendly" swimming pool for those hot days.

Days 10 to 13:

After 9 full days in Safari, you will be delighted to spend few nights on the beach! A flight will bring you back to Dar es Salaam and you will then be transferred either via road or short flight to Ras Kutani for the following 4 nights. Despite its long and tumultuous history, this beach holiday in Africa offers the visitor that increasingly rare commodity - long stretches of pristine deserted beaches, warm blue seas and an opportunity to experience the peace and tranquility long since swamped by overcrowding in more publicized tropical resorts. None more so than Ras Kutani, set on a crescent of white sandy beach, washed by the gentle surf of the temperate Indian Ocean. The lodge is situated only 35 kilometers South of the port of Dar es Salaam but offers the perfect hideaway, far from the madding crowd. The setting ensures that feeling of being on one's own tropical island. The lodge is flanked by a fresh water lagoon abutting onto a coastal forest, which spills to the edge of the unspoilt and undeveloped beach.

Accommodation is in nine spacious, charming cottages constructed of natural, local materials that harmonise perfectly with the wonderful surroundings. Ethnic furnishings impart a sense of the Tanzanian coast's rich cultural heritage. Each cottage has its own en suite bathroom and large veranda with views of the azure ocean. Our chefs pride themselves on preparing the fresh “fruit of the ocean” fare from the readily available local fish and crustaceans. On top of the hill we have also four suites and a family unit all with stunning views.

Day 14:

You safari will end at the airport of Dar es Salaam after a charter flight transfer from Ras Kutani.
