8 night with Botswana Explorer Expedition, Okavango, Moremi, Savute & Chobe, Botswana
1 night at Matetsi Water Lodge, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Days 1 to 4:
This safari begins at Maun International Airport in Botswana from where you will be transferred either via car or flight to the Baobab Capital of the World for a four nights stay at Planet Baobab. The average age of each tree; 4000 years and beyond, the boundless salt pans of the Makgadikgadi, a lunar landscape the size of Switzerland. Thankfully, the funkiest bar and the coolest pool in the Kalahari await your pleasure. Planet Baobab is a well known watering hole for travellers of every description and the more colourful characters from Maun. At any one time, locals jostle the cross-continentals who have slogged it through the bush, and worse, to get here.
Day 5 & 6:
You will then be transferred to Maun via flight and will be welcomed by a member of the &Beyond team at Maun International airport. He will help you onto a light aircraft flight to Nxabega Airstrip, where a safari vehicle will be waiting to take you to the campsite where you will spend the first 2 nights (Okavango Delta). Tucked under massive trees, this campsite is situated in an area with a number of permanent river channels. Explore the crystal-clear lagoons, islands and waterways by mekoro (dug-out canoe), and enjoy game-viewing walks on the islands. Spend two nights at our campsite in a private concession area with a complement of camp staff to cater for your needs. Awaken each morning to a chorus of birds or the chattering of monkeys and linger in the comfort of your fully sized bed as you listen to the sounds of your hot bucket shower bring filled with steaming hot water.
Day 7 & 8:
A short flight in a light aircraft takes you to Khwai in the Moremi Game Reserve (where you will spend your next two nights). Covering approximately a third of the Okavango Delta, the Moremi combines permanent waterways with drier areas, creating a reserve filled with unexpected contrasts and diverse wildlife. Its riverine forests, tall mopane woodlands and spreading floodplains fringed with majestic palms make it one of Africa’s most scenic wildlife areas. The combination of habitats makes Moremi the ideal place for your expedition to combine typical savanna game viewing with leisurely cruises along lagoons and channels, and rich bird watching. Spend two nights camping in the Reserve, with extensive and interpretive game-drives taking up your days.
Day 9 & 10:
A long game drive (5 - 6 hours) takes you to Savute in the Chobe National Park, where you will spend two nights camping next to the dry Savute Channel in an area renowned for sightings of lion and other predator. The landscape around Savute is starkly beautiful, with an arid, almost desert-like feel. Mopane forest gives way to acacia savanna with rocky outcrops. Large areas of marshland that extended from the Linyanti River have dried up along with the Savute River, but several artificial watering holes attract a high concentration of wildlife.
Day 11 & 12:
Travel to northern Chobe (4 - 5 hours overland game drive), where you will camp for two nights in the Serondela area. This is the heart of elephant country and you may spend many hours watching the huge herds in and around the Chobe River on game drives or private boat cruises. Northern Chobe is renowned for its large variety of bird and animal life, beautiful scenery and magnificent sunsets.
Day 13:
It is a short drive to Victoria Falls, where you can relax in a spacious suite at Matetsi Water Lodge after a tour of the Falls. With 15 km (nine miles) of exclusive Zambezi River frontage, Matetsi offers an unrivalled river experience in addition to spectacular game viewing and birdwatching. Guests delight in afternoon riverboat cruises and guided canoe excursions along the Zambezi River, as well as afternoon and morning game drives.
Day 14:
After breakfast at Matetsi, you will be taken to Victoria Falls International Airport by road and your safari will end.
